Introducing our Newest Track: Personal Development
You’ve seen the buzzwords on social media, you’ve heard your one “crazy” friend talking about John Maxwell non-stop, and you’ve seen the Rachel Hollis books flying off shelves. But what really is personal development, and why are we introducing it as a track at our 2021 #MILLSUMMIT?
Personal Development is an all-encompassing term that refers to personal wellness. Think about professional development: leadership trainings, team building, diversity workshops, etc. It’s all content related to helping you be a better professional. Well, personal development is the same idea, but related to your personal wellness: finances, physical health, mental health, wellbeing in interpersonal relationships, wellbeing in relationship with yourself, etc.
While it may sound hippie dippy (and sometimes it can be), personal development is something we were all faced with over the 15 months of isolation during COVID. We were spending more time with ourselves, with our habits (good and bad) and more time with our families than we ever could have imagined. It was a time to face our physical wellness with eating habits and weight gain from being inside, face our mental health with the stress of a global pandemic, and financial habits as employment became uncertain and more Americans filed for unemployment than any other time in our history.
Scary, right? It was a lot for our bodies to handle and many of us are still handling the after-effects of the COVID isolation. Couple that with the inevitable grief of family members passing away, cancelled weddings, graduations, vacations… you get the idea. We need to focus on ourselves and our wellness coming out of this.
At the 2021 #MILLSUMMIT, we’re covering a myriad of topics to help you come out of COVID stronger and more resilient than ever before. Here’s what you can look forward to:
LOSE THE PROFANITY KEEP YOUR SANITY: SELF-CARE FOR PARENTS
MONDAY AUGUST 2 | 2:30 P.M. EDT
With the millennial population growing up and having children of their own, Team #MILLSUMMIT thought we should cover one of the most important topics emerging for our generation: parenting! Though one of the most rewarding jobs a person could take on, parenting is also difficult. Many times, you’re tempted to lock yourself in the bathroom and buy a one way plane ticket to New Mexico, rather than deal with one more lone lego in the middle of the hallway. In this session, we’re talking about self-care for parents. (And yes, it really is possible!)
JACLYN DIGREGORIO KEYNOTE
TUESDAY AUGUST 3 | 4:00 P.M. EDT
Jaclyn DiGregorio is a life coach, motivational speaker, and bestselling author of the book Stop Getting in Your Own Way, where she teaches readers how to “explore business growth strategies, mindset development, and goal-setting as Jaclyn dives into the secrets of stepping into the business (and life) of your dreams.”
As the closing Keynote speaker on Tuesday August 3, Jaclyn will lead a goal setting workshop, motivating attendees to reach beyond what they thought possible for themselves. I’m looking forward to hearing her story, her message, and her answers to the question burning in all of us: How can I really achieve my dreams?
BODY BRAIN & BUDGETING: THREE B’S TO GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER
MONDAY AUGUST 2 | 10:15 A.M. EDT
Covering all possible facets of personal development in one session surely isn’t easy, but we’re giving it a shot! Speakers for this session include: a fitness coach, a health coach, a representative from Blue Cross Blue Shield, and an accountant. They’ll cover the importance of physical, mental, financial, and overall wellness as we emerge from over a year inside. If you’re curious about what personal development is all about, this is a great session to watch!
HOW TO RAISE AN ANTI-RACIST CHILD
TUESDAY AUGUST 3 | 10:15 A.M. EDT
The civil unrest our country has faced over the last year hasn’t just affected us, but the way we parent our kids as well. To help us all navigate the tough conversations with our children, June Crockett from the YWCA will be in conversation with David Rosario from the Russell-Byers Charter School District. As parents and educators themselves, June and David will get to the heart of the matter, helping us raise an Anti-Racist generation.
Whether you’re new to personal development or are a seasoned veteran with more Brendon Burchard books to count, we’re thrilled to share this new track with you! We can’t wait to hear your feedback on integrating personal development into a traditionally more ‘professional development’ summit. Have you grabbed your ticket yet? If not, you can register here.
